Garage Radio
A web site devoted to playing only independent music. Bands from across the country and many in the Valley - can finally find a place to get their music heard. The RIAA has shut down a number of Internet radio stations that play label music, but since Garage Radio features only independent acts they are in no danger of that.
Mike Foxworthy (who launched the site) has a background in network engineering and web design, and has played in bands his whole life. So what originally started as a place to get his music heard, led to his friends and there friends wanting to join in. The bands can join the site for free, but only after the music is screened. The hope is that they can build a network where independent bands and promoters, for a fee, can hook up and work together.
A local promoter Scott Kelly, chief executive of Tempe based Black Dog Productions, represents two Valley bands who have music on Garage Radio.
Once enough bands are signed on to the site, they are hoping to create an "Indie Top 40 station" where bands from all over the country can be heard by listeners everywhere.
