The Kiwanis Recreation Center Classes
The Kiwanis Recreation Center located at 6111 S. All America Way in Tempe is ready to serve your every need when it comes to
recreational classes.
Summer Classes
Cooking for Kids: Appetizers Kids, learn how to create delicious appetizers that you can make at home, and serve to your parents!
We will be using a small toaster oven to make a variety of tasty treats that the kids will enjoy during class!
Cooking for Kids: Pizza, Pizza, Pizza!Kids will make three different types of pizza in this class. We will start by making one large pizza together.
Then each child will make their own individual small pizza followed by a ‘cookie pizza’ for dessert!
Cooking for Kids: Salads Having a hard time getting your kids to try fruits and vegetables? In this class, children will be asking for more!
They will make and enjoy a garden salad, fruit salad, and a Jello pudding salad.
Cooking for Kids: Father’s Day Brunch Learn how to make a fantastic Father’s Day Brunch that will have your dad talking for months!
French toast, fruit skewers with a yogurt dipping sauce, "coffee" (hot chocolate) and a special dessert will be featured.
Cooking for Kids: Main Entrée Take your kids ‘Out to the Ballpark!’ The main fare this week will be stadium food:
hamburgers or hot dogs. Children will learn how to cook using the George Foreman grill.
Cooking for Kids: Desserts Kids never pass up dessert! In the last class of the series,
we will be making two different desserts: the infamous ‘mud pie’ and a fruit torte.
Cooking for Kids: Cookies & Cakes Have a blast decorating cookies and cakes with our friends!
Each participant will decorate and take home some cookies and a small cake. Also, have fun decorating a large cake with your classmates.
Baseball Hitting Group Lessons Four, 1-hour lessons in groups of 5-8 boys and girls age 7-12.
Baseball Pitching Group Lessons Four, 1-hour lessons in groups of 4-6 boys and girls age 7-12.
Batting Range Private Lessons 480-350-5727-Private lessons are available for baseball and fast-pitch softball.
Lessons for hitting, pitching, and fielding are available by appointment. These may be for an individual, 2 individuals (semi-private),
or for teams. Call the Batting Range for more information.
Karate; YouthLearn the self-defense art of Hawaii Kenpo Karate from Hall of Fame Instructor Patrice Lim.
This on-going program has room for belt rank advancement. Required Lim Kenpo white uniform and school patches available the first
day of class for $45. Uniform, safety equipment, belt testing fees and additional supplies are required for participation and are not
included in the registration fee. New student orientation at 4:30pm on first day of class.
Elementary Engineering Engineering made fun for all those young engineers out there! Students will use advanced LEGO parts and pieces to
build simple and complex machines as they learn about structures and forces, levers, gears and much more. Students will use their team’s
collective creativity and concepts learned in class to solve challenges. 6 weeks.
Fun-gineering; Simple Machines 'Fun-gineers' will explore and experience the mechanical use of pulleys, levers, gearboxes, wheels, axles and more!
The hands-on activities, using LEGO kits, will help them understand the basic mechanical properties of how things move and work.
The fun-gineer’s 'job' is simple-build something cool that moves! 6 weeks.
Tumbling; Parent/Tot Work one-on-one with your child to improve coordination, balance, and heighten concentration
while learning basic tumbling moves.4 week class
Tumbling for Toddlers This program is designed for the beginning gymnast. Learn the fundamentals of gymnastics
(front rolls, cartwheels, backbends and handstands) while increasing flexibility, coordination and building self confidence. 4 week class
Tumbling for Kids Stay healthy and fit by increasing flexibility, improving coordination, heightening concentration and building self-esteem.
Learn front/back rolls, cartwheels, handstands, backbends and front/back walkovers. 4 week class.
Baby Signs®: Sign, Say & Play Camp This camp educates families about Baby Signs® and builds supportive friendships with other families beginning their signing adventures!
Required Starter Kit fee of $70 per family collected at the first class. The Starter Kit includes the following Baby Signs® products: BeeBo's Play Pack filled with My First Fun Signs DVD,
two board books, Quick Reference Guide, and a music CD and songbook. Register under child’s name. Please call 480-350-5752 if registering more than one child.
Stretch-n-Grow; Toddlercize Toddlercize uses music, games and EXER-citement to make fitness FUN! Each week Stretch-n-Grow 'Stars. participate in structured work-outs and
activities that help them create spatial awareness, rhythm and social development as they interact and have fun with their peers.
Parent participation is optional, but encouraged. 4 week class.
Stretch-n-Grow; Little Sport Learn the names of our major muscles, and the basic skills of different sports activities.
From basketball to bouncing balls to soccer and more! Each class consists of a warm-up, aerobics, sport activity, and cool down.
Muscles they will strengthen, fitness they will learn, and oh you’re going to love the ENERGY they will BURN!! 4 weeks.
Stretch-n-Grow; Pom and Cheer If your child is interested in becoming a cheerleader, this is a perfect opportunity to learn what the sport is all about!
Learn cheers, jumps, kicks, a spirit dance and more! 4 weeks.
Babysitting Class, American Red Cross Become a prepared babysitter! In this class you’ll learn the "how to’s" of properly caring for small children.
Topics covered include accident prevention, feeding and dressing and what to do for breathing emergencies. Bring a non-perishable sack lunch.
Drop-In Volleyball and Basketball Program Teens. Two courts are available for all levels of play.

New! Parenting Picky Eaters - This workshop is for the newcomer to the world of computers.
Help children explore and accept new foods. Reduce mealtime frustrations. Promote healthy eating habits. Parents will learn general strategies suitable for use with children ages 6month - 10+years.
Instructor is a licensed speech/language pathologist with experience in feeding. (Adults only may attend class).
CPR Health Care Provider This American Heart Association Healthcare Provider course is designed for healthcare professionals.
The course includes instruction on: adult and pediatric CPR, mouth to mask techniques, bag valve mask use, foreign-body airway obstruction,
two-rescuer CPR, use of barrier devices, stroke and AED use. Participation cards issued upon successful completion of the course.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to purchase The Healthcare Provider book ($12) at the Kiwanis Pro Shop.
CPR Heartsaver plus AED This American Heart Association course instructs students in the basic techniques of adult, child and infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
Students are also taught use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and barrier devices, how to recognize signs of heart attack, stroke,
cardiac arrest and foreign-body airway obstruction. Participation cards issued at the successful completion of the course.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to purchase the Heartsaver CPR/AED book ($13) at the Kiwanis Pro Shop.
Japanese Jujutsu Learn a rare Japanese martial art, which was used by feudal police, of the Samurai Era.
This traditional system consists of many self-defense techniques: joint locks, throwing, choking, blocking, striking,
pinning, ground fighting, and nerve center manipulation. No prior martial art training is needed.

Pilates and Stretch Class Join us for a multi-level Pilates class that focuses on core strength, flexibility, and relaxation.
There will be a strong focus on stretching and class input is appreciated. Drop in for $9.50 per class.
