A childs craft brought to you by Anissa Stringer.

Flying Butterflies

Approximate Cost: $5 or less
Approximate Ages: 3 and up

What you'll need:
2 coffee filters
2 popsicle sticks
1 pipe cleaner, cut in half
hot glue (or school glue)
paint, markers or crayons
string or yarn

What you'll do:
Have your child decorate the coffee filters, and while she/he's doing that, take the popsicle sticks and glue them together in the shape of a cross. Wrap the sting or yarn around them to help hold them in place, leaving a 12-inch tail. Use glue to keep the string from unraveling if necessary. (If you use school glue you'll need to allow for drying time before your child can play with the butterfly.)

When the coffee filters are done, pinch them together in the center, one at a time. Put them together (like the top and bottom sets of wings on a real butterfly) by twisting the pipe cleaner around them, leaving two long antenna at the top.

Tie the loose end of the string to the base of the antenna to create a flying butterfly!

Remember that long strings can be a strangulation hazard so play with common sense.
